Day 1 – June 4th, 2013

Day 2 – June 5th, 2013

Arrive in Berlin, the capital of Germany. The travel ways crew will be at the airport to meet & greet you. Your coach will be waiting for a short drive to your hotel, during which you will see some of the most exciting sights of the city. The rest of the day will be at leisure, so that you can relax from the long flight. Dinner will be at a nearby restaurant. Tonight sample typical Berlin food. We will spend overnight in Berlin.

Day 3 – June 6th, 2103

Today we take you on a city tour of Berlin – apart from the regular city tour that shows BRANDENBURG GATE, KAISER WILHELM MEMORIAL CHURCH and the German Parliament REICHSTAG, we will venture off the beaten tracks and bring you to places like the former ALLIED CHECKPOINT CHARLIE, famous since the “Cold War”, and one of the last pieces still remaining of the famous BERLIN WALL.
Around noon we will stop at the well known square “GENDARMENMARKT” for two reasons – an inside visit of the Huguenot Museum, dedicated to the Lutherans that fled from France in the 17th century and to have an excellent Bratwurst at the square for lunch. Afternoon at leisure or you can go on your own explorations or join us on a little extra tour.
An optional excursion of half a day to POTSDAM CASTLE is available.
The home of the Prussian Kings, see beautiful parks and gardens and also the place where the famous Potsdam Agreement was signed by Stalin, Truman and Churchill to confirm the occupation and reconstruction of Germany.(Euro 48.oo)

Day 4 – June 7th, 2013

This morning we will leave for Wittenberg, the town were Martin Luther lived and preached for 36 years. Follow his footsteps while you walk down the cobble-stone streets between CASTLE CHURCH with the historic “Theses Doors”, the LUTHER HOUSE and the Reformation Museum.
Enjoy the many activities of the re-enactment of “Luthers Wedding”
Your pastor will take you on a guided walk through the birthplace of reformation. See the beautiful church “STADTKIRCHE” with its marvellous altarpiece made by Lucas Cranach in 1547. Later you will see the LUTHERHALLE, home of the largest collection of Reformation artefacts in the world.
The afternoon is free for your own explorations in Wittenberg. Dinner at the hotel or a nearby restaurant.

Day 5 – June 8th, 2013

We will spend all day in Wittenberg. Today we will see a most magnificent event – the historical parade in celebration of Luthers wedding. More than 2000 locals and visitors make this event an unforgettable experience. Enjoy some of the sixty different performances and events in Wittenberg’s historic streets and buildings. Couples who want to renew their vow will have their ceremony today in “STADTKIRCHE” – the church in which Martin Luther preached.

Day 6 – June 9th

A short drive takes us to Leipzig. Visit the famous ST. THOMAS CHURCH where Bach lived and worked as a cantor for 27 years. We will also see his grave in the church. Via the town of Halle we will then drive you to Eisleben this morning, where Martin Luther was born in 1483 and died in 1546. The HOUSE WHERE HE WAS BORN is currently a museum, the ground floor of which dates from the 15th century. Also see ST. ANDREAS CHURCH where he preached his last four sermons. In the afternoon onwards to Erfurt. For dinner we take you to a very special place – the Restaurant Luther Keller where you will enjoy a medieval banquet with entertainment.

Day 7 – June 10th

Today we offer you a morning optional excursion to the beautiful historic town of Eisenach. We will visit the LUTHER HOUSE, where he lived during grammar school.
Next we will pay a visit to the BACH HOUSE and view the living quarters of Bach’s time and enjoy a live music performance on historical instruments: two house organs, spinet, clavichord and harpsichord. This is a unique feature in a museum in Germany. Enjoy a break in the shade of the huge Luther statue on market square Eisenach before we take you back to Erfurt around noon. (Euro 45.oo)
In the afternoon all of us will visit a very special place – one of the most famous monasteries of the world.
It was here where martin Luther took a vow to become a monk after having been caught in a violent thunder storm. Here in Erfurt he turned to theology and the monastic life and lived as a monk in the AUGUSTINIAN MONASTERY. And while we are in this very special place we will follow his footsteps through historic Erfurt. A guided tour of the monastery will be followed by a very special ORGAN CONCERT OF BACH MUSIC EXCLUSIVELY FOOR OUR GROUP.

Day 8 – June 11th, 2013

This morning we head for the WARTBURG CASTLE which dates back to the year 1067. It is said to be one of the most important historical castles of Germany and has been nominated by UNESCO as World Heritage.
From May 1521 until March 1522, Martin Luther stayed at the castle, after he had been taken there for his safety at the request of Frederick the Wise following his excommunication by Pope Leo X and his refusal to recant at the Diet of Worms. It was during this period that Luther, under the name of Junker Jörg (the Knight George), translated the New Testament into German.
Around noon we leave for Frankfurt/Main, our last stop. Overnight in Frankfurt/Main. Enjoy your last evening during a farewell dinner with your travel companions.

Day 9 – June 12th, 2013

After breakfast we escort you to the airport and wave “goodbye” to you. Your transatlantic flight arrives in the U.S. the same day.
